Terms and privacy
Democast is a product of Otter Lake B.V., Amsterdam. This page has the terms of service, the privacy policy and the imprint. Last updated 31 October 2026.
Terms of service
These terms apply when you use democast.app or buy a paid demo.
The service
Democast makes a narrated demo video of a web app, a web page or an uploaded file. An AI agent opens the source in a sandboxed browser, writes a demo script and records the video. Making and previewing a demo is free. Free videos have a Democast watermark, and their share pages show a Democast badge.
Paid demos
A paid demo is a one-time payment of €17, or $19 in the US, for one demo. That demo has no watermark and its share page has no badge, for as long as the demo exists. Re-renders are included for 60 days after the payment. A new version of the same file or URL is the same demo. A different file or URL is a new demo. After 60 days the clean video stays. To re-render it, pay again to add another 60 days. Prices include VAT where VAT applies. Payments run through Stripe.
Consumers in the EU usually have a 14-day right of withdrawal. The clean render starts as soon as you pay, because you ask us to deliver at once. You give up that right when you pay.
What you may film
Point Democast only at apps, pages and files that you own or have permission to record. Do not submit content that is illegal or that infringes someone else's rights. We can delete a demo or a share page that breaks this rule, and close the account.
Your content
You keep all rights to your sources, scripts and videos. You allow us to store, process and show them as far as we need to deliver the service, for example on your share page.
Your account
Keep your password private. You are responsible for everything that happens under your account.
Changes
We can change the service and these terms. The date at the top of this page shows the last change.
Liability
We provide the service as it is. We are not liable for indirect damage or lost profit. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits a liability that the law does not allow us to limit.
Law
Dutch law applies. Disputes go to the court in Amsterdam, unless consumer law gives you another court.
Privacy policy
Otter Lake B.V. is the controller for the personal data that democast.app processes. Contact: hello@otterlake.co.
What we collect
- Account: your name, your email address and a hash of your password.
- Sources: the URLs you enter and the files you upload. Uploaded files are stored at unlisted URLs. Anyone who has such a URL can open the file.
- Recordings: the agent records a sandboxed browser that shows your source. We store the raw recording, the script, the narration audio and the video.
- Share pages: anyone with the share link can watch the video.
- AI processing: page content and screenshots go to an AI model that writes and repairs the script. The narration text goes to OpenAI, which turns it into speech. The audio goes back to OpenAI once for a transcription check.
- Payment: Stripe collects your email address, your billing country, a VAT number if you enter one, and your payment details. We read the payment status from Stripe. We never see your card details.
- Analytics: Vercel Web Analytics counts page views. It sets no cookies and stores no IP addresses.
Cookies
democast.app sets a session cookie when you sign in. The cookie keeps you signed in and is needed for the service you ask for. We set no tracking cookies. The home page keeps your choice of its standard or developer view in your browser's local storage.
Why
We process this data to deliver what you ask for and what you buy (contract), to keep the service secure and to count visits (legitimate interest), and to meet tax and bookkeeping law (legal obligation). We do not sell data and we do not run advertising.
Who processes data for us
- Vercel: hosting, the render sandboxes, file storage and the analytics, in the United States. Vercel Inc. is a US company. Its data processing agreement and the EU standard contractual clauses cover the transfer.
- Neon: the database, in the United States, under the same kind of agreement.
- Anthropic, through the Vercel AI Gateway: the model that writes the demo script. Data is processed under the API terms and is not used to train models.
- OpenAI: narration speech and the transcription check, under its API terms. API data is not used to train models.
- Stripe: payments. Stripe Payments Europe Ltd., Ireland.
- Resend: service alerts that we send to ourselves when a render fails.
How long we keep data
Your account, demos and videos stay until you delete them or ask us to. You can delete a demo on its page. To delete your account, email hello@otterlake.co. Payment records are kept for 7 years, as Dutch tax law requires.
Your rights
You can ask for access to your data, correct it, delete it or object to its processing. Email hello@otterlake.co. You can also file a complaint with the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
